Our small, tight-knit community in Bullhead City is reeling from a series of shocking events that have left us questioning everything we thought we knew about our neighbors and the safety of our children.
Yesterday, we were hit with the devastating news of a local business owner's arrest. Known to many of us as "Kyan," the friendly face behind the "Crepe Guy" food truck, His real name is Nijad Alexandre Myassar he was a fixture at community events. I remember chatting with him once, asking how he ended up in Bullhead City. His response, "I put my finger on a map and it landed on Bullhead City," seemed charmingly serendipitous at the time.
I found this website posted by someone on facebook about his life before he came to Bullhead where he was using the same alias he used here as well. https://www.kyanblackwood.com/media/epk-kyan-blackwood.pdf
Here is a YouTube link where he is singing about two young boys in a homosexual relationship. It is hard to determine if it is him remembering this in his past or it is just an artistic representation.
When he moved to Bullhead City he married a man listed below and as you can see used his real name not his alias. I spoke with Sheriff Schuster to confirm that it was indeed the same person “Kyan” and he confirmed that it was.

The arrest itself was shocking enough, but the confusion that followed only added to our collective distress. The Mohave County Sheriff's Department's Facebook post initially listed his age as 48, when he is actually 38. This typo, while seemingly minor, contributed to the surreal feeling that has enveloped our community.

What makes this situation even more heart-wrenching is the connection to another recent tragedy in our town.

Just last year, we were shaken by the arrest of Shawn Lee Martin and Melisa Renee Richman on child abuse and drug charges. Their children, including one of their sons, who was with Kyan at the time of their arrest, was caught in the middle of this nightmare. In what seemed like an act of kindness at the time, "Kyan" had taken one of the children in, utilizing Arizona's kinship placement program. Here is the link with the information about the kinship program https://dcs.az.gov/news/dcs-announces-new-program-offering-expanded-services-kinship-families
We all thought he was doing a good deed, providing a stable home for a child from a troubled background. Now, we're left grappling with the horrifying reality that the system may have inadvertently placed a vulnerable child in harm's way.

This series of events has been a harsh wake-up call for our community. It's tempting to give in to despair or cynicism, to believe that we can't trust anyone. But I believe we must resist that urge. Instead, we need to channel our anger and sadness into positive action.

Arizona has around 10,000 children in need of foster care. Organizations like Catholic Charities Community Services right here in Bullhead City offers programs for becoming certified foster parents. Yes, it's challenging, but it's also incredibly rewarding and necessary. Here is the link for more information https://www.catholiccharitiesaz.org/noaz/foster-care-adoption

I want to express my gratitude to the numerous Federal agencies and the Mohave County Sheriff's Office for their diligence in uncovering this and protecting our community's most vulnerable members. Their work reminds us of the importance of remaining vigilant and looking out for one another.

As we process these events, let's remember that while this betrayal of trust is devastating, it doesn't define our community. We are resilient, caring, and capable of rising to meet this challenge. Let's use this as motivation to do better, to be more aware, and to take concrete steps to protect our children and support families in need.
I helped this family I was so happy when the kids got taking away but then the oldest boy got put in a very bad situation I love this boy so much I would take him in a heartbeat and show him what a happy safe life is all about I hope this sick guy that took him in burns alive I also hope these kids never go back to the shithole ppl that gave birth to them. This sadness is devastating
As the aunt of these brave and beautiful kids—watching helplessly from 3,000 miles away—thank you for shining a light in the darkness. Your words gave breath to what so many were too afraid or too broken to say out loud. You didn’t just write an article—you stood up for truth, for justice, and for the innocent.
I’ve cried, prayed, and hoped from afar, wishing I could do more. But you did more. You gave them a voice. You gave us hope.
Thank you for your strength, your courage, and your heart. This mattered. You made it matter. And I am forever grateful.
